Reykjavik Marathon Celebrates its 30th Anniversary on August 24th

This coming August, on the 24th, the Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon will be celebrating its 30th anniversary! The race features Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, 10 km, and 3 km Fun Run options. Starting and finishing in Lækjargata, the time limit for the marathon and relay race is six hours.

The first part of the course goes through a residential area before the runners make their way into the section of the race that winds along the seaside, boasting incredible views of the ocean. Along the route runners will also have views of the mountains surrounding Reykjavik as well as Esjan and the Snæfellsjökull glacier. Race participants will continue through the Elliðaárdal valley, travel through a waterfall, some woodland, and numerous famous buildings.

In addition to the race, the Reykjavik Culture Night will be taking place in Reykjavik on the same day. The Culture Night is a very popular event in Iceland, bringing up to one third of the population into the capital as Reykjavik’s greatest celebration. The festival features events in theatre, music, fine arts, and food, and finishes with a firework show at 11pm.

Registration for the race closes August 21st so be sure to sign up soon!
