Reykjavik was recently named as a 2011 World Festival and Event City. The International Festival and Events Association presents this award based on the variety and number of events held as well as the positive atmosphere that fosters the creation of events and festivals. Reykjavik has a government that encourages cultural activities, the support of its citizens, and a very creative population, with a high number of musicians, artists and writers.
