Reyka Vodka Releases New Book to Celebrate Icelandic Culture

All proceeds from the photo book benefit Literacy Partners.

Reyka Vodka is celebrating Iceland’s distinctive culture with their new photo book, Made of Iceland: A Drink & Draw Book. Published by powerHouse Books, the photo book showcases Icelandic traditions featuring illustrations submitted by artistic Reyka enthusiasts from both Iceland and the U.S.

To create the book, Reyka partnered with Snorri Sturluson, an Icelandic photographer and director. Born and raised in Iceland, Snorri is a natural creator and was the ideal partner for Made of Iceland.

Over the past year, Reyka hosted Drink & Draw events where participants were provided only with Reyka Vodka cocktails and drawing materials with the instructions to draw their thoughts on Icelandic culture . As a result, Reyka collected both thought-provoking and amusing images. In addition to the drawings, Made of Iceland highlights elements of Icelandic music, cuisine, fashion, art and design. As you flip through the pages of the book, you’ll see drawings depicting some of Iceland’s talented musicians and artists: Soffía Björg, Ólafur Ágústsson and Þorlákur Kristinsson just to name a few!

Literacy is a fundamental part of Iceland’s unique culture. Jólabókaflóð, or Book Flood, is an Icelandic tradition where people exchange the books that are mostly published in the months leading up to Christmas. The excitement and celebration around books is one of the reasons Iceland has one of the highest literacy rates in the world. To celebrate Iceland’s love of literature, Reyka Vodka has partnered with Literacy Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering high quality, community-based literacy programs in New York City.
