The New York Times Features Iceland in ‘52 Places to Go in 2014′

The New York Times’ interactive piece titled “52 Places to Go in 2014,” featured Iceland’s naturally beautiful central highlands at number 30 on their list. Iceland’s central highlands constitute some 40 percent of the entire country and are home to Thjorsarver Wetlands, glaciers, pools, ponds, lakes, marshes and permafrost mounds. Although the area is currently protected, the Icelandic government might build hydropower plants there in the future, so the Times suggest that “If you ever want to see Iceland in all of its famously raw natural beauty, go now.”

Iceland’s new Ion Luxury Hotel also received a mention in the article as a stylish, comfortable place to stay while you hunt for the northern lights. Other locations mentioned include cities in Cape Town (South Africa), Frankfurt (Germany), Albanian Coast (Albania), Taiwan and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), among others.
