Landsvirkjun Receives Nomination for the Global Project Excellence Award!

The National Power Company of Iceland has been recognized for its Theistareykir power station.

Landsvirkjun’s geothermal power station Theistareykir has been nominated for the Global Project Excellence Award by the International Project Management Association (IPMA). This award is the largest in the field of project management worldwide!

Theistareykir geothermal power station is nominated in the Large and Mega-Sized Projects category. Throughout the nomination process, a five-member delegation from IPMA came to Iceland to evaluate the power station. The audit included a visit to Theistareykir and discussions with many stakeholders that took part in the project. Of the 17 indicators evaluated at Theistareykir, 11 received the highest grade available!

Theistareykir is the first geothermal power station that Landsvirkjun has built from the ground up. The goal of this project was “to build a cost-effective and reliable power station that takes into account its environment and surrounding nature.” Construction took approximately three years to complete.

Hördur Arnarson, CEO of Landsvirkjun said: “The designation is a great recognition for Landsvirkjun, the Theistareykjaver project and the number of employees and contractors involved in the project. Such international and respected accolades will give us continued motivation for professional work in project management at Landsvirkjun.”

The winners will be unveiled at the IPMA World Congress in Mexico at the beginning of October.
