Keflavík International Airport Named the Best in Europe

Airports Council International named Iceland’s main transit hub the best airport in Europe.

Anyone who has visited Keflavík International Airport during their travels to Iceland can attest to the facility’s wonderful amenities, including a vast abundance of natural light, tasteful art displays and an easy-to-navigate layout. The airport’s attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction have resulted in Keflavík being named Europe’s best airport!

To determine the  best airports of 2014, Airports Council International conducted a passenger survey asking visitors about things like politeness and helpfulness of airport staff, ease of transit, ambience, and cleanliness. Passengers were also asked whether they were satisfied with baggage handling, access to baggage trolleys, banking services and restaurants in the terminals.

After the survey results were calculated, Keflavik came out on top, beating out other top contenders in Moscow, Portugal, Malta and Zurich. This is the third time that Keflavík has received recognition for its outstanding results. The airport held a top position in Europe in 2009 and was the best airport in Europe with under two million passengers in 2011. In addition, the airport was inducted into the ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence in 2014 for continuous success in service surveys from 2008.

Bjorn Oli Hauksson, Managing Director of Isavia, says that he is extremely proud and pleased with the results: “Our staff, other operators and police, customs and immigration has yet again demonstrated the high level of service at Keflavík International, despite an enormous increase in the number of passengers.”
