KDVR Crew Embarks on an Iceland Whale Watching Adventure

Earlier this fall, the FOX31 KDVR news team flew directly on Icelandair from Denver, Colorado to the capital city of Reykjavik for three days filled with Icelandic adventures. Iceland has long been known for its dramatic landscapes: Vast, frozen glaciers, fiery volcanoes, soothing geothermal hot springs and lively city nightlife. But did you know Iceland’s coastal seas provide an entirely other world of adventure? Not only are you able to scuba dive between two continents in Thingvellir National Park, but thanks to companies like Elding, visitors have the opportunity to experience some of the best whale watching in the world.

Many species of whales call Iceland’s waters home, so many in fact that 80% of fall and winter whale watchers report seeing the majestic creatures, with this percentage surpassing 90% in the summer months. From the Blue Whale, to the Minke Whale to the well-recognized Orca, guests aboard an Icelandic whale watching tour have a truly unique opportunity to see a variety of species on any given day.

To celebrate KDVR’s trip to Iceland, the news station and Icelandair teamed up to offer one lucky viewer the opportunity of a lifetime, with round-trip airfare to Iceland, three nights hotel courtesy of Icelandair Hotels, a Golden Circle Fontana Tour, an Icelandic Horse Theatre experience and a Northern Lights tour courtesy of Reykjavik Excursions.
