Icelandic Musicians Nominated for 2018 Grammys Awards!

Kaleo and Jóhann Jóhannsson will represent Iceland at the most famous music awards ceremony in the world.

Iceland’s music scene is making waves in North America! Icelandic rock band Kaleo and renowned composer and producer Jóhann Jóhannsson both received nominations for the 2018 Grammy Awards, the world’s most prestigious awards show in the music industry.

This Grammy nod is a first for Kaleo, who was nominated for Best Rock Performance for their hit song, “No Good.” Kaleo came to national recognition after the release of their second album, A/B. The brand was previously named Top New Rock Artist by Billboard for 2016 and is continuing their international Express Tour in the spring of 2018. Check out the upcoming dates here!

This year, Jóhann Jóhannsson looks to win his first Grammy award on his second nomination. The Icelandic composer was nominated in the Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category with his score for the critically acclaimed film Arrival. Jóhannsson was previously nominated in the same category back in 2014 with his score for the film The Theory of Everything. Although Jóhannsson didn’t take home the Grammy then, he received an Academy Award nomination for his work on the film and struck gold by winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Score.

Best of luck to both artists as they represent Iceland’s musical talent at the Grammys in 2018! The 60th annual ceremony will be held on January 28, 2018 in New York City. You can catch the show live on CBS starting at 7:30 p.m. EST. In the meantime, be sure to check here for updates on these Icelandic artists!
