Icelandic Musical Previews in New York July 28

Revolution in The Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter previews at the Minetta Lane Theatre.

 

Revolution In The Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter,” a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Ívar Páll Jónsson will begin previews at the Minetta Lane Theatre on July 28.

Directed by Bergur Þór Ingólfsson with choreography Lee Proud and music direction by Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, the production will officially open Off-Broadway on August 13. The cast is headed by Tony winner Kate Huffman and Kate Shindle. Jersey Boys star Rick Faugno, who played Franki Valli in the Las Vegas production of the smash-hit musical, was also recently joined the Revolution in the Elbow cast. The story takes place in Elbowville, a small community within Ragnar Agnarsson’s body, with a focus on three brothers who live there. When one brother, Peter, creates a “prosperity machine,” the peaceful town is quickly disrupted, leaving the a pragmatic and possibly evil Mayor Manuela to deal with the crisis.

Creator Ívar Páll Jónsson is an Icelandic songwriter whose collaborations with other Icelandic artists (like Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, Gunnlaugur Jónsson, Karl Pétur Jónsson and Óskar Eiríksson), culminated in the concept album for this production.
