Iceland Naturally partner Icelandic Glacial received the Ölfus Municipality Environmental Award, an honor granted to companies, organizations and individuals within the municipality who engage in sustainable initiatives and exemplary green practices. The award aims to enhance environmental awareness in the municipality, and encourage residents and businesses to increase sustainability initiatives.
“Since its founding, Icelandic Glacial has aimed to set the industry standard with its environmental decisions and practices. Our appreciation for unspoiled nature motivates us to protect the earth and its resources, which is why we strive to implement environmentally friendly initiatives in almost every area of our business,” commented Jon Olafsson, Chairman and Co-founder, Icelandic Glacial. “It’s an honor to receive this award from the Ölfus Municipality and is a testament to how truly committed Icelandic Glacial is to safeguarding the environment.”
Icelandic Glacial Water is the world’s first bottled water certified as carbon neutral for product and operation – a rare certification to obtain in the beverage industry. Its source, the Ölfus Spring, is naturally replenished by surrounding mountains and has been deemed certifiably sustainable. The water collected by the company flows directly into its state-of-the-art bottling plant located in Hlidarendi, Iceland at the edge of the Ölfus Spring. Additionally, the completely sustainable operation is fueled entirely by geothermal and hydroelectric power.
In an effort to leave the smallest carbon footprint possible, Icelandic Glacial ships product utilizing otherwise empty cargo space on vessels already scheduled to return to destinations around the world. “Icelandic Water Holdings fulfills all the qualifications and requirements set forth when we selected the deserving recipient of the Ölfus Municipality Environmental Award. Icelandic Water Holdings is a worthy recipient of the award” said Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources at the award ceremony.
