Approximately 88,000 people were removed from their homes in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada after natural fires threatened their neighborhoods. Through a partnership with Unique Foods, Icelandic Glacial donated 40,000 water bottles to stock the makeshift shelters set up in schools and hockey arenas. In addition to shelters, Icelandic Glacial water was given directly to firefighters, police, first responders and those working with the Red Cross.
“Icelandic Glacial has never shied away from being a first responder in providing relief for any type of disaster, and this is no exception,” said Jon Olafsson, Chairman & Co-Founder of Icelandic Glacial. “Our hearts go out to the people of Fort McMurray, and we are committed to helping them get the relief they need.”
The Icelandic company has a history of giving. In January, Icelandic Glacial teamed up with American singer and actress Cher to donate water to those affected by the Flint, MI water crisis. Thousands of bottles of Iceland’s purest water were given to the city through the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Icelandic Glacial also provided water to the first ever Rolling Stones concert in Cuba this past March. The Icelandic water was enjoyed by the band, crew and concert goers as the first non-Cuban water to be imported into the country.
