Icelandic Film ‘Of Horses and Men’ submitted to the Academy Awards

This year, Iceland’s submission to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film is Of Horses and Men, directed by Benedikt Erlingsson. Described as a ‘tragicomedy,’ Of Horses and Men explores the relationship between man and animal. The film often presents horses as spectators to the animalistic actions of their human counterparts and conversely illustrates a human streak in the horses.

It’s the first feature from Erlingsson, an Icelandic award-winning actor and theatre director who also wrote the film’s script. IndieWire writes “Debutant feature director Benedikt Erlingsson takes advantage of the mesmerizing landscapes of the Icelandic Countryside in a film that is as visually rewarding as it is subtly witty.” The Academy will announce the nominations on January 16, 2014 and the official Academy Awards ceremony will be March 2, 2014 – be sure to mark your calendars!
