Icelandic Composer & Musician Jóhann Jóhannsson Grabs Oscar Nomination

For the second year in a row, Jóhannsson is nominated for “Best Original Score.”

For the second consecutive year, Icelandic musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Original Score” category, thanks to his direction in Sicario. The famed composer was also nominated last year for his work on The Theory of Everything, for which he also won a Golden Globe.

The annual Academy Awards will take place on February 28, hosted by Chris Rock. Jóhannsson will go head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the industry, including John Williams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Ennio Morricone (The Hateful Eight).

Jóhannsson was also nominated for a BAFTA for his work on Sicario, which you can listen to in the video below. Six Icelanders have been nominated to receive an Academy Award, but so far, none have taken home the prize. Will Jóhannsson be the first? Tune in to the awards ceremony on February 28 to find out!
