Icelandic Charity Single Goes Global

The third edition of Icelandic charity anthem ‘Hjálpum þeim’ (Help Them) is out now in aid of disaster victims in East Africa, and for the first time it has been recorded in English in a bid to reach around the world.

The single, composed by Jóhann G Jóhannsson and Axel Einarsson, was first recorded in 1985 in order to combat poverty in Ethiopia after Bob Geldof and Midge Ure started raising global awareness and funds for the country through Live Aid and Band Aid. ‘Hjálpum þeim’, inspired particularly by ‘We Are The World’ by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, was also rerecorded in 2005 in aid of earthquake victims in Pakistan.
