Icelandair Announces Service to Portland, Oregon

Portland marks Icelandair's 14th North American gateway.

Icelandair announced it will begin seasonal non-stop service from Portland, Oregon to Reykjavik, Iceland beginning in May 2015! With this new route, Icelandair will provide flights to its third gateway in the Pacific Northwest region of North America, and 14th overall in the United States and Canada. Icelandair’s 2015 route network will be the largest in the airline’s history, with flights to more than 20 destinations throughout Europe.

With this new service, the Portland metro area’s 2.3 million residents will gain access to one of the regions shortest flights to popular European destinations including London, Copenhagen, Paris, Stockholm and Munich. Plus, Icelandair passengers have the unique opportunity to book a stopover in Iceland for up to seven nights for at no additional cost.

“The past six years have been very positive for Icelandair and we aim to continue on the same path in 2015,” says Birkir Hólm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair. “With today’s announcements we will continue to strengthen our position in the international market between North America and Europe offering increased flight capacity, new gateways, and more aircraft than any year prior. With both business and leisure travel to Iceland poised to increase further, our extensive route network provides passengers with an unrivaled opportunity, and we are very excited to team with Portland as they become an important part of this continued success.”

Service from Portland International Airport (PDX) will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays and arrive at Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in just over seven hours. Return service departs Keflavik on Tuesdays and Thursdays with same-day arrival in Portland.

Additionally, with Icelandair’s continuing cooperation with Alaska Airlines, convenient connections to Icelandair’s extensive route network are now available via its Portland hub. Cities include Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, as well as gateways in Hawaii and Alaska, amongst others.
