Iceland Declares a No-Fly Zone for Art!

Icelandic authorities have taken the unusual step of restricting air traffic over central Reykjavik this coming Saturday. The reason for the disruption? An aerial acrobatics performance as part of this year’s Reykjavik Arts Festival…

Depending on wind direction, domestic air traffic arriving at Reykjavik airport (not to be confused with Keflavik International Airport) very often flies low over the city’s Austurvollur square, where the Althingi parliament house is located. That will not be allowed this Saturday, however.
