Grab Your Helmets and Hides: Viking Days Are Coming

The Nordic Heritage Museum puts on its 31st annual Viking Days festival this August.

Mark your calendars! Viking Days will take place on August 16 and 17, 2014 at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, Washington. This family friendly festival features delicious Nordic food and music, live entertainment, a Viking encampment and so much more!

This year, Viking Days is kicking off with a brand new event: Run like a Viking 5K. Runners will take off at Golden Gardens Park the morning of Saturday, August 16 for a run along the waterfront. Costumes are highly encouraged, so break out the helmets and hides and prepare to invade the park! Dogs are also welcome to run (and dress up). To register for the 5K, click here.

After the Run like a Viking 5K, the festivities continue with a Swedish pancake breakfast, which is available at 9:00 a.m. both mornings of the event. Craft demonstrations, vendors, children’s activities and Nordic music will keep the family entertained all day. Goodies will be served from the Scandinavian Food Hearths all day long to satisfy hunger cravings. Fancy a drink? The Valhalla Beer Garden will be open and serving grilled sausages, craft beer and aquavit. The Viking encampment will be set up on both Saturday and Sunday with weaving, weapon fighting and war for those who wish to explore their inner Viking. A salmon BBQ will take place on Saturday evening with alder-smoked salmon and live music.

Enjoy free admission to Viking Days and to the Nordic Heritage Museum all weekend. There has never been a better occasion to celebrate Viking style!
