Eistnaflug, One of the Best Kept Secrets in the World of Music Festivals, Returns to Iceland

The tantalizing Eistnaflug Festival has managed to remain elusive for years, making it one of the world’s best kept secrets. Eistnaflug returns to the small town of Neskaupstaður for its 10th edition this July 10-12th.

The isolated town of Neskaupstaður is situated 700km from Reykjavik, and provides the perfect backdrop for the festival. There is a welcoming indoor main venue, Egilsbúð, and a unique off-site visual art venue, Mayhemisphere. During the weekend, both locations are filled with the best of the Icelandic alternative music and art scenes. Iceland’s 24 hours of daylight in June will surely give the festival a mystical feel. This setting, paired with some of the best foreign acts you can dream of, work to complete the weekend.

Looking to the lineup, party-goers are sure to be pleased with the Swedish headliner At The Gates, who recently announced that their new album is set to debut this fall. Other non-Icelandic bands include American thrashers Havok, Swiss rockers Zatokrev, and Dutch death metallers The Monolith Deathcult.

However, the real appeal of Eistnaflug comes from the surprisingly diverse underground music of Iceland. The Eistnaflug website mentions, “There are no boundaries – from indie rock to hardcore to black metal, everything that’s good is accepted and embraced at Eistnaflug.” The show will include performances by Sólstafir (who promises exclusive new material in their Pre Fest day set before the start of the festival), Momentum, The Vintage Caravan, Angist, Agent Fresco, Kontinuum, Gone Postal, and many more!
