Designs from Nowhere by Karna Sigurðardóttir and Pete Collard recently received the first Icelandic Design Award. The project explores the possibilities for small-scale design and production in East Iceland, using locally sourced materials and skills.
The importance of design in Icelandic society, culture and business is growing steadily. It is therefore vital to increase understanding of good design and underline the importance of quality to the Icelandic people. Celebrating achievement and excellence, the Icelandic Design Award is given to a designer, a team, a studio or an architect for an outstanding new work, object, project or collection.
Each year, the award is given to a recent project that demonstrates creative thinking, resourceful solutions, thorough presentation and professional methodology throughout the design process. The Icelandic Design Award is established by the Iceland Design Centre in collaboration with the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the Museum of Design and Applied Art.
