DesignMarch 2013

An annual showcase for Iceland’s emerging design scene, DesignMarch encompasses all fields of design ranging from fashion to furniture, architecture, graphic design and food design.

This year’s program features more than 130 openings, exhibitions, workshops and other events across Reykjavik. Spreading from the fishermen’s huts in the harbor to the lava fields surrounding the city, the festival showcases the best of Reykjavik’s local creative scene. More than 15% of the entire Icelandic nation is expected to join in on the weekend’s events to celebrate design.

Here’s what’s in store for the 2013 program:

DesignTalks

DesignMarch opens the festival with a day of lectures on the magic of creativity.

Speakers: Mark Eley and Wakiko Kishimoto, the designer duo behind the fashion label Eley Kishimoto; Julia Kinchin, design and architecture curator of MoMA, Maja Kuzmanovic, founder of multidisciplinary design agency FoaM, professor emerita of graphic design Inge Druckrey.

Reykjavik Fashion Festival

Reykjavik Fashion Festival sets up its catwalk in Harpa for the following 7 Icelandic fashion labels:

Andersen & Lauth, Mundi & 66° North, Ella, REY, Farmers Market, Huginn Muninn and JÖR by Guomundur Jörundsson.

Fishbone Model Making by Róshildur Jónsdóttir

Reykjavik’s prime design gallery SPARK design space will present Fishbone Model Making, a toy building set made from Icelandic fish bones. 

Nordic Design Today

Museum of Design and Applied Arts sets up an exhibition of works by winners of Torsten and Wanja

Söderberg Prize. Designers: fashion designer Henrik Vibskov, jewelry engineer Sigurd Bronger, design group Front, furniture designer Harri Koskinen and fashion designer Steinunn Siguroardóttir.
