Iceland may be known for its vast rolling landscapes and natural attractions, but Conde Nast points out that the city’s capital is not to be overlooked. The starting point for many a whale-watching expedition, Reykjavik Harbor is also home to a host of colorful local businesses. Seabaron is another harbor stop on this visual tour; a tiny, two-table restaurant known for its fresh seafood and rustic ambiance.
Not far from the more traditional-looking businesses and homes in Reykjavik Harbor is the beautiful Harpa Concert Hall, the “cultural hub of the city,” writes Conde Nast. From conferences to concerts and exhibitions, Harpa is an architecturally incredible building that hosts some of Iceland’s most creative events.
Reykjavik Coffee Roasters, what Conde Nast calls the best coffee shop in the city, is a great place to sit and read or people watch. Another coffee house in this list is Stofan. Located close to the habor, Stofan has plenty of sofas and is a great spot to relax.
If you’re looking to do some shopping and grab a snack after your coffee, the Kolaportid Flea Market is an “expansive industrial warehouse on the harbor where you can find anything from sweaters to fermented fish,” plus there’s a bakery on the side!
If you’ve visited Iceland you may have stayed at KEX Hostel, another location featured on the list. But did you know the hostel is located in a former biscuit factory? Kex means biscuit in Icelandic.
