The Christmas Village at Hafnarfjördur just outside the city, as well as the 13 Santas (or jólasveinar, meaning Yule Lads) have made Reykjavik the premiere Christmas destination for 2010.
The festivities last from the middle of November right into early January in Reykjavik, keeping Icelanders and tourists alike celebrating the holidays throughout the winter months. Iceland’s Christmas celebrations feature attractions for families as well, with walking tours to supposed elf homesites (elves are common among Icelandic folk lore).
