Buzzfeed Ranks Iceland Airwaves in Top Music Festivals

The annual festival showcases new artists and music from around the world.

Iceland Airwaves topped this Buzzfeed list that ranked 10 travel-worthy music festivals from around the world.  Since the festival began in 1999, it has become one of the premier annual showcases for new music worldwide.

Held in the fall of each year, international and Icelandic artists join together in Reykjavik for five days of unforgettable performances. Music lovers from around the world flock to Iceland for this extended weekend to experience the fantastic nightlife and culture the festival brings.  In the past, international artists such as The Shins, Florence and the Machine, The Flaming Lips, Fatboy Slim and The Rapture have rocked the stage with Iceland’s finest artists such as Björk, Sigur Rós, FM Belfast, GusGus and Of Monsters and Men (to name a few).

As Buzzfeed notes, the concerts at Airwaves are typically held during the evening.  This leaves plenty of time during the day to explore the many activities Iceland has to offer – from taking a dip in the healing waters of the Blue Lagoon to exploring about volcanoes and geysers.

This year’s Airwaves festival will be held from November 5-9 in Reykjavik.  The artist lineup is already filling up with new and bright artists.

With five days of festivities and exploration, it’s no wonder Buzzfeed calls airwaves “one of the craziest long weekends you can expect to have this close to the Arctic Circle”.
