Blue Lagoon Completes First Phase of Expansion

The popular geothermal spa continues to be one of the most visited attractions in Iceland.

Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most coveted destinations, finished the first phase of its expansion and has grown by half its original size! Aiming to create more space to enhance each guest’s experience, the geothermal spa completed its initial expansion in January of 2016 and is now 8,700 square meters. This is just the first phase of a massive renovation of the lagoon that will be completed in the spring of 2017.

Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland, drawing travelers from far and wide to experience the healing and soothing nature of the spa’s bright blue waters. The lagoon’s warm waters truly have a healing quality; the water is rich in minerals like silica and sulfur, and it is said to help ease the symptoms of even the most stubborn skin conditions.

With the first phase of expansion complete, Blue Lagoon now consists of three distinct but unified areas. First, the main area of the spa has been fully renovated and now features an in-water silica mud bar for visitors to discover the rejuvenating properties of Blue Lagoon’s iconic mineral.

The second area of expansion is a brand new lookout point that extends eastward from the main area of the lagoon to the lava cliffs on the south shore and beyond. This new horizon of geothermal enchantment provides spa-goers with a peaceful, more private experience of the lagoon.

The final area of the expansion is located within a lava cove on the lagoon’s south shore. This serene addition to the lagoon is completely dedicated to Blue Lagoon’s unique in-water massages; the cove’s seclusion creates a tranquil, meditative environment for guests to enjoy one of Blue Lagoon’s most unique spa treatments.

If you plan on experiencing the serenity and tranquility of the newly renovated Blue Lagoon first hand, pre-booking is necessary. Visit Blue Lagoon’s website to plan your visit of the newly renovated spa in advance!
