Stay at a Luxury Lighthouse Hotel With This Incredible Icelandair Stopover

The Incredible Stopover offer is made for travelers looking for an exclusive and memorable stopover. With a tailor-made itinerary and a private hotel in a lighthouse, this package truly deserves the name “Incredible Stopover.” The century-old Dyrhólaey lighthouse is the only active lighthouse where visitors can stay, making it the most exclusive accommodation in Iceland. It sits at the southernmost point of the country, in the stunning surrounding area of Vík í Mýrdal.

The hotel is in the transformed Dyrhólaey lighthouse, which was built in 1910. No one has ever had the opportunity to stay in the lighthouse before, which has only recently been given a magnificent transformation, assuming the role of a stunning private hotel for a limited time only. It offers breath-taking views in all directions, including the endless Icelandic coastline, impressive Mýrdalsjökull glacier and a huge arch of lava, which reaches out to the sea. The task of transforming the lighthouse was entrusted to top Icelandic designer Guðbjörg Magnúsdóttir. Taking her cue from nature, she has created a space where natural colours meet comfortable surroundings, elevating the hotel experience to an outstanding Icelandic haven.

In addition to a stay in this unbeatable location, travelers will be given the choice of adding a selection of incredible activities to make their trip complete. This will include a private guide, an unforgettable helicopter tour around Reykjavík city and its surrounding mountains, exploring the enchanting Gljúfrabúi, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, hiking up Sólheimajökull glacier, horse riding, discovering the beautiful black beach at Reynisfjara and a relaxing trip to the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths. Each package includes a private driver and guide and a stay at the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Marina, which features a spectacular view over Reykjavík’s harbor.

Icelandair has developed this and other travel packages to highlight its Stopover service, which offers transatlantic passengers the option to take a Stopover in Iceland for up to seven nights at no additional airfare. With possible routes now connecting 25 European destinations to 14 North American cities, taking an Icelandair Stopover is easier than ever.

The lighthouse will be operated by Icelandair Hotel Vík, which is a new hotel in the wonderful village of Vík in Myrdal. It includes  a personal meet and greet on arrival a delicious breakfast and a private chef that prepares a dinner feast with locally sourced ingredients.
