Upcoming Icelandic Events at New York’s Scandinavia House!

The American-Scandinavian Foundation is hosting a variety of winter events featuring Icelandic music, movies and more.

Iceland is coming to New York City this winter! The Scandinavia House will be presenting a wide variety of Icelandic programs beginning in 2018. Known for its celebration of Nordic culture, The Scandinavia House will offer something for everyone to enjoy, including film screenings, book clubs, lectures, language courses and more.

Under the Tree/Undir Trénu – Nordic Oscar Contender

Just in time for awards season, catch one of the 2017 Oscar contenders at The Scandinavia House! The celebrated Icelandic film, Under The Tree, is one of six Nordic movies being shown at the cinema. Directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, the movie follows the story of two families and the tree that comes between them. Icelandic Composer Collective – Errata Series Featuring Loadbang and TAK Ensemble

For only two nights, Loadbang and TAK Ensemble will perform the work of renowned Icelandic composer collective, Errata and of Icelandic-American composer, David Franzson. These exclusive performances will honor the great work of these musicians and bring an Icelandic sound right to New York City. You can buy tickets for January 19 or January 21.

Saturday Morning Icelandic Storytelling

Starting mid-January, storytellers from Hans Christian Andersen Storytelling Center will excite children with Icelandic and Nordic classic tales. This Saturday morning event is a great way to learn about Icelandic culture from magical tales and popular folk stories. And even better, it’s free! Grab your little ones and learn more about this weekly event here.
