In North America Feb 02–Mar 05, 2021

Tune in to Nordic Women in Film 2021 from February 2 – March 5

Catch a special Facebook Live Q+A following the Icelandic film "And Breathe Normally" on March 5 at 3pm ET.

The Nordic countries have had a long history of promoting gender equality and spearheading initiatives to highlight women’s stories. As a part of this effort, the Nordic embassies in the United States, Women in Film and Television International, and Women in Film & Video Washington, DC are proud to present “Nordic Women in Film,” a special celebration of Nordic cinema highlighting female Nordic and American filmmakers.

For five consecutive weeks, every Tuesday through Thursday from February 2 to March 3, audiences will have the opportunity to view contemporary Nordic films followed by intimate panel discussions with female filmmakers. Nordic Women in Film will serve as a five-week celebration of artistic ambition and cultural exchange. The movies and conversations will explore topics ranging from the power of filmmakers to the ways women define their own reality.

Week 5 will feature the 2018 Icelandic film And Breathe Normally, directed by Ísold Uggadóttir. The film tells the story of two women’s lives that intersect while trapped in circumstances unforeseen. Between a struggling Icelandic mother and an asylum seeker from Guinea-Bissau, a delicate bond will form as both strategize to get their lives back on track. And don’t miss the special Facebook Q&A and panel discussion on March 5 at 3pm ET on the Iceland Naturally Facebook page!

Panelists include Sundance-winners Ísold Uggadóttir and May el-Toukhy, Oscar-contenders Zaida Bergroth and Maria Søhdahl, Samí director Suvi West, along with award-winning actresses Sofia Helin, Trine Dyrholm, and many more. The films will be available to watch online via Festival Scope from anywhere in the United States and Canada (the first film will only be available to watch from the United States). The panel discussions will be open to watch online from anywhere in the world
