Tune Into a Conversation With Eco-Activist and Film Star Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir

Geirharðsdóttir will be discussing the highly acclaimed Icelandic film “Woman at War” and it’s deeper meanings.

On Sunday, May 2nd at 1pm, tune into a virtual conversation with eco-activist and film star Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir presented by the Vice President for Iceland, Einar Ulfsson. Geirharðsdóttir, the star of the highly acclaimed film “Woman at War,” will discuss the film and its deeper concept and messages.

The film follows the story of a fifty-year-old independent woman who leaves a double life as a passionate environmental activist. She is known only by her alias, “The Woman of the Mountain,” and secretly wages a one-woman-war on the local aluminum industry, eventually succeeding in pausing negotiations between the Icelandic government and the corporation building a new aluminum smelter. One day, an unexpected letter changes her life. Her application to adopt a child has been accepted and there is a child waiting for her. As Halla prepares to abandon her role as saboteur and savior of the Highlands to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother, she decides to plot one final attack to deal the aluminum industry a crippling blow.

Geirharðsdóttir will discuss the themes of progress and conservation, which compete throughout the film. She will also explore questions posed about making improvements in our society and whether we should begin by focusing on ourselves or focusing on the system we were born into.
