Taste of Iceland returns to Toronto for the sixth time November 10-13 to celebrate various aspects of Icelandic culture. Attendees will have the chance to experience authentic Icelandic cuisine at Jump, enjoy the free Reykjavik Calling concert at The Horseshoe Tavern and more during this four-day festival. Sigurður Helgason of Iceland’s very own Grillið will fly to Toronto to collaborate with local chef Miheer Shete at Jump. Sigurður is one of Iceland’s premier chefs; he has competed in multiple international competitions and is the 2016 coach for Iceland’s Culinary team. Miheer Shete is Jump’s new chef de cuisine who will help Sigurður create a tasty Icelandic-Canadian menu! Brennivin cocktails will be served all night long by mixologist, Julien Lavoie, including the specially crafted Icelandic Mulled Wine.

This year, Reykjavik Calling will be held at The Horseshoe Tavern in partnership with local Toronto radio station CIUT. Come enjoy the free Icelandic-Canadian collaborative concert featuring Icelandic musicians Axel Flóvent and Ceasetone, alongside the dynamic Canadian duo LAL. Admission to the free concert will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis at The Horseshoe Tavern. Must be 19+ to enter.

LITERATURE: The Write Stuff: Why Iceland Inspires Us to Put Pen to Paper | Nov. 11
This literary event celebrates Iceland’s robust storytelling culture with a discussion led by Iceland’s First Lady Eliza Reid, a Reykjavik-based writer and editor who co-founded the Iceland Writers Retreat. Iceland is one of the most popular destinations for creative minds, and Reid will focus her talk on what makes Iceland so inspirational for lovers of the written word. Attendees can learn about, discuss and purchase novels from highly-acclaimed Icelandic authors.

FILM: Of Horses and Men | Nov. 12
Of Horses and Men is a country romance about the human streak in the horse and the horse in the human. Set almost exclusively outdoors, the film showcases Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes. Celebrated director Benedikt Erlingsson’s debut feature film, Of Horses and Men won The Nordic Council Prize, Scandinavia’s most prestigious film award, among many others.
