After taking Boston by storm for the past three years, the annual cultural celebration A Taste of Iceland returns yet again to The Hub in 2013 with variety of public events including Icelandic culinary promotions, a free live concert, film screenings and an art exhibit. Icelandic Menu at Legal Sea Foods, March 8-12

Icelandic Guest Chef Þráinn Freyr Vigfússon and Iceland Guest Chef Fannar Vernarðsson have teamed up with Legal Sea Foods to create a special Icelandic menu that will be featured in four Boston-area Legal Sea Foods; Copley Place, Prudential Center, Park Square, and Legal Harborside, Floor 2. Sourcing the freshest ingredients straight from Iceland, the chefs will collaborate to offer a unique, scintillating three to four-course menu that will showcase the best of Nordic cuisine to local diners.

Reykjavik Calling Concert, March 9 at 8:00 p.m., The Paradise Rock Club, FREE, 18+

Back by popular demand, Reykjavik Calling celebrates music emerging from the cities of Boston and Reykjavik at The Paradise Rock Club. This is an event not to be missed, as two Boston-area artists will be paired with two Icelandic counterparts to encourage collaboration on their performances, resulting in an evening of never heard before musical partnerships. Each band will play one song by the matched group and add their own unique twist.

Presented by 88.9 WERS FM, admission is free and will feature performances from the following Iceland/Boston duos:

• Ásgeir Trausti  (Iceland) & The Adam Ezra Group (Boston)
• Soley Stefansdottir(Iceland) & Kris Delmhorst (Boston)

Doors open at 8:00 p.m.; the first act hits the stage at 8:30 p.m. Show is 18+. 

Icelandic Film Festival, March 10, 3:00 p.m., Theatre 1 – Revere Hotel, FREE

One day only! Enjoy free screenings of three Icelandic hit films on Sunday, March 10, at Theatre 1 at the Revere Hotel (200 Stuart Street, Boston, MA 02116, 617-482-1800). Admission is free.

3:00 p.m. – Either Way (85 min.) In the remote north of Iceland in the 1980s, Finnbogi and Alfred spend the summer painting lines on the winding roads that stretch out to the horizon. Soon the barren wilderness becomes a place of adventure, disaster and discovery as both men find themselves at crossroads in their lives. Either Way is a subtle and playful dramatic comedy.

4:30 p.m. – Herd in Iceland (28 min.) For over 1,000 years, Icelandic law has made it illegal to import horses onto the island. For that reason, Icelandic horses are a pure breed, isolated by oceanic borders. During the summer months, the horses live a remote and wild existence, grazing in the highlands and raising their young. Every September, they are rounded up by local farmers and directed across the rugged terrain to reunite with their owners. It’s a breathtaking tradition that unites the country. Herd In Iceland, a film by Lindsay Blatt and Paul Taggart, documents the annual horse round-up. The result is a unique and moving portrait of Iceland’s people, horses, and stunning landscape.

5:00 p.m. – Grandma Lo-Fi (65 min.) Shot mostly on Super-8 and 16mm film Grandma Lo-Fi was created over a period of 8 years by three musicians debuting as directors, capturing the most creative period in the life of Sigriour Nielsdottir. Grandma Lo-Fi is a cinematic tribute to an amazing musician and her boundless creativity.
