Taste of Iceland in Boston 2012

After taking Boston by storm in 2010 and 2011, the annual cultural celebration returns yet again in 2012 with variety of public events, including Icelandic culinary promotions, free live musical performances, a film festival and free ice skating event.

Schedule of Events

March 1-4, Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks

Guest Chef Hákon Már Örvarsson, Bocuse d’Or and World Culinary Cup winner, has created a special Icelandic menu with Executive Chef Matthew Audette of Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks. Sourcing the freshest ingredients straight from Iceland, the two chefs will collaborate to offer a unique, scintillating four course menu that will showcase the best of Nordic cuisine to Boston-area diners.

Saturday, March 3, Paradise Rock Club, FREE

For the first time on the East Coast, Reykjavik Calling celebrates music emerging from both the cities of Boston and Reykjavik. This is an event not to be missed, as four Boston-area artists will be paired with four Icelandic counterparts to encourage collaboration on their performances, resulting in an evening of never been heard before musical partnerships. Presented by 88.9 WERS FM, the free concert will feature performances from the following Iceland/Boston duos:

Admission is free for Boston’s first Reykjavik Calling concert. Doors open at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, March 3, Kendall Square Community Skating Rink, FREE

Icelandair’s second annual Last Bostonian Skating event offers a fun filled day of skating, Icelandic music and sweepstakes. Donations and proceeds will support Children’s Hospital Boston and the Special Children’s Travel Fund. Free skating and skate rentals will be offered from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., courtesy of Icelandair. Fun interactive events will be held from 12-3 pm including music, games and a chance to win a trip to Iceland.

The event will be held at the Kendall Square Community Skating Rink located at 300 Athenaeum Street in Cambridge, MA.

Sunday, March 4, Kendall Square Cinema, FREE

One day only! Enjoy free screenings of two Icelandic hit films on Sunday, March 4, at Kendall Square Cinema (1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, 617.499.1996). Admission is free.

1:00p.m. –Summerland is the story of Lára, a mother of two, gifted with a sixth sense and the ability to communicate to the dead, thanks to an ancient elf-stone in the garden of the rundown family house.

2:30 p.m. – Inni is the famed Sigur Rós’ second live film following 2007’s tour documentary Heima. Inni cocoons the viewer in a one-on-one relationship with the band and depicts how it feels for both band and fan to experience Sigur Rós live.
