Each year, summer kicks off in Iceland with a full 24 hours of sunshine, followed by a period known as the midnight sun, referring to the prolonged hours of sunshine throughout the summer. This unique phenomenon occurs when the tilt of Earth’s axis is most inclined towards the sun directly above the Tropic of Cancer.
Icelanders are well aware of how special this occurrence is and celebrate the prolonged sunshine in style. For example, every year, Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik, hosts its Secret Solstice music festival, a party that keeps on rocking for over 96 hours to celebrate the prolonged sun. Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, the multi-stage festival showcases some of the hottest names in music from international and local talent from June 21-24.
