Last week, Sigur Rós shared a short video with “#Norðurogniður” written in white across a black background. After a few days of allowing fans to speculate and develop theories, the band announced they would be putting on a six-day festival in Reykjavik, called, you guessed it, Norður og Niður.
Sigur Rós will perform on four of the six days. The festival is the first time the Icelandic trio has played in Iceland in five years. Held at the world famous Harpa, the crowd is limited to 1,500 with the goal of giving the festival a smaller and more intimate feel.
Norður og Niður will feature musical performances, art installations, dance pieces, film screenings, spoken word and impromptu happenings. Although no other performers have been named, special guests will include artists from the band’s extended network of friends and collaborators.
