Scandinavia House was founded by The American Foundation to be the learning hub of the Nordic culture in the United States. The culture center will make you feel as though you have traveled to a Nordic country for a day filled with cultural activities. Visitors can expect a wide range of events through the winter season, including some exciting Icelandic programs! Keep reading for a list of their Icelandic events taking place during the 2016-2017 winter schedule.
Exhibit
Borrowed Time: Icelandic Artist Look Forward highlights the work of contemporary Icelandic artists who focus specifically on sustainability and the environmental, economic and cultural issues surrounding it. The exhibit features photography, videos and more for visitors to experience. Borrowed Time has been extended through February 11, 2017 and is free with admission.
Films
Sparrows is a coming-of-age story of a sixteen-year-old who has been living in Reykjavik with his mother and is suddenly sent back to live with his father. While living with his father, he reconnects with childhood friends and faces a different relationship with his father. The film is a 99 minute production directed by Runar Runarsson, an Icelandic screenwriter and director. His other films include Anna , 2 Birds and The Last Farm. New York International Children’s Film Festival takes place February 24 through March 19, 2017 at venues across New York City giving visitors a taste of different Nordic cultures. The festival includes filmmakers, Q&As, workshops, special screenings for children and families and more. Tickets are $35 per person and $29 for ASF Members.
