How are Icelanders celebrating the end of the year and getting ready to take on 2019? With the ÍR New Year’s Eve 10K run in Reykjavik! The annual race takes place on December 31st and is a staple for Icelandic runners of all abilities to take part in.
Icelandic track and field club ÍR puts on the race, which is regarded as one of the most popular races in all of Iceland, averaging over 1,200 participants each year! Runners often dress up in costumes and fun outfits, with a prize awarded for the best costume.
The race kicks off from Reykjavik’s famous Harpa Concert Hall, giving participants the perfect opportunity to explore one of Iceland’s most unique venues. The 10K course takes runners through beautiful scenery, offering picturesque views of the ocean, Mount Esja and the harbor.
