The Reykjavik International Film Festival Returns This September!

Be sure to check out one of Iceland’s biggest cultural events of the year.

Filmmakers from around the world will be in Reykjavik from September 27 to October 7 to take part in the Reykjavik International Film Festival. As one of Iceland’s largest and most diverse cultural events, the festival celebrates independent films from over 40 different countries each year.

Icelanders and tourists are encouraged to attend this event that features professional mixers, panels, workshops, concerts, and even film screenings in unique places – like a swimming pool! Films during the event are entered into categories including: Documentaries, Youth Films, Icelandic Shorts, Icelandic Panorama and New Visions. Many films will compete for the competition’s main prize, the Golden Puffin, awarded to first or second-time directors. Films participating in the competition will be announced at the end of August.

Those interested in attending RIFF can purchase two types of tickets: a festival pass or coupon card. The festival pass is for one person and provides entrance into all screenings (excluding special events). A coupon card is valid for eight screenings and can be shared with others. The festival pass and coupon card can be purchased here. Single tickets to films and special discounts will also be offered to students and senior citizens during the event.

Attendees interested in making their own films can also take part in Reykjavik’s Talent Lab. Each year, 40 people are invited to meet with film producers and other professionals for help and consultation on their first feature film. The Talent Lab will run from October 2-7 and includes workshops, panels and masterclasses. More information on applying can be found here.
