Get ready for 17 nights of Icelandic music at the Reykjavik Festival in Los Angeles! Starting April 1st, the massive music festival will feature the works of over 50 composers, more than 60 musicians, three art installations and 18 world premieres of new musical pieces.
Hosted by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the performances will take place at the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall, located in the heart of downtown L.A. The festival is curated by Icelandic composer and conductor Daníel Bjarnason and L.A. Philharmonic conductor laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen. For two weeks, the festival will highlight a wide spectrum of musical genres – from rock to pop electronic to classical symphonic, you’ll get a taste of Iceland’s unique music scene.
The festival will also include a series of art installations, as well as lectures and films before the concerts. The acclaimed music series by the L.A. Philharmonic includes Green Umbrella, World Music, and a special show by award-winning Icelandic composer, Jóhann Jóhannsson, in collaboration with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.
In a unique three-night performance, the popular Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós will take to the stage with the L.A. Philharmonic from April 13-15. The concerts will represent the musical collaboration between Iceland and North America.
For a special one-night extension of the festival, Björk will make a debut on May 30th with a performance to complement the “Björk Digital” exhibition at the Magic Box at the Reef, opening May 19.
