North Iceland Local Food Festival Returns October 15 – 20, 2015

Immerse yourself in the culture and cuisine of Iceland’s top culinary destination.

Northern Iceland’s famous food festival returns to Akureyri in October to celebrate the country’s largest food production area! Due to the overwhelming popularity and success of the annual event, organizers have extended the festival to run from October 15th to the 20th. National and international foodies will now be able enjoy a week-long celebration of Northern Icelandic food culture! As with previous years, a free, two-day exhibition will be held on October 17 and October 18. The exhibition will be held at the Sport Stadium in Akureyri, Iceland and will be open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Beginning on the 15th, guests will be able to attend culinary trips and visits to local production companies throughout northern Iceland. Other organized events for the week include: lectures on the vibrant food culture, theatrical performances related to the cuisine, and cooking lessons featuring local Icelandic ingredients and techniques. For those looking to further immerse themselves in the food culture, travel agencies have organized trips to an array of Icelandic restaurants that offer menus with a specific emphasis on traditional Icelandic cuisine.

Looking to get in on the action? The festival invites both professionals and amateurs to test their skills in a series of various food-related competitions. Through these competitions, manufacturers and chefs will be able to not only showcase their products and services, but compete for the chance to be dubbed the best of the best. For those who would like to showcase their business but are wary of a competition, the exhibition offers designated areas where companies and individuals can present their Icelandic service or product to thousands of festival-goers. Be it through competition or exhibition booth, participants will be able to gain mass exposure nationwide and internationally as the festival has attracted upwards of 13,000 people per year!

Whether you are an industry professional, local foodie or adventurous tourist looking to sample the famous North Iceland cuisine, there is definitely something for everyone at this year’s festival! Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of the famous event celebrating one of the world’s most renowned culinary destinations, Northern Iceland.
