Iceland’s Museum of Design and Applied Art collects and preserves the parts of Icelandic cultural history that encompass design, especially from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
From now until May 1, every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00-11:00am EST, the museum’s designer-in-residence Ásthildur Magnúsdóttir will be hosting live webcasts from the museum to practice and present her designs and discuss Icelandic wool! Ásthildur Magnúsdóttir, the museum’s current designer-in-residence, is a weaver and eider farmer who specializes in the history and properties of the Icelandic wool. Her textile work covers everything from the finest damask to rough rya rugs.

Two years ago, the Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art opened up a residency room for designers where they can practice, exhibit and sell their work. The residency lasts for three months and offers a conversation between the museum’s visitors and the designers. The arrangement provides insight into the craftsmanship and methodology of each designer.
