On May 30, a staged reading of Icelandic playwright Hávar Sigurjónsson’s “Our Boy” (Strakur Okkar) will take place at the Scandinavia House in New York City. This free event starts at 7pm and will be performed by Annemette Andersen, Jason Beckmann, Albert Bendix and Jason C. Brown.
Since 1983, Sigurjónsson has worked professionally in Iceland as a stage director, writer, translator and journalist and continues to work with the National Theatre of Iceland. “Our Boy” follows the story and relationships between a mother, a father, their homosexual son, and his boyfriend. The play brings an equal amount of seriousness and humor to explore this family and the challenges they overcome.
The play is put on in partnership with the Scandinavian American Theater Company and in celebration of the second annual European Month of Culture NYC. Tickets are free but you must RSVP in order to attend. Seats are filling up fast so be sure to get your tickets here!
