The Iceland Winter Games Return This March!

From March 22-24, winter sport fanatics from all over the world will attend one of Europe’s fastest growing sporting events.

The countdown has officially begun for the 2019 Iceland Winter Games! In Akureyri, the ski capital of Iceland, competitors are getting ready for one of the biggest events of the year. From March 22-24, winter sport enthusiasts and athletes will get the chance to experience the games’ exciting and jaw dropping spectacles.

Returning for its fourth year, the annual event has become one of the biggest winter sporting events in Europe. The Iceland Winter Games test athletes in a handful of the most challenging and unique sporting competitions. Events include a variety of skiing and snowboard competitions, such as the Volcanic Big Air jump, and the Icelandic National Dog sledding championship.

Attendees will also get to indulge in Iceland’s beautiful sightseeing opportunities, including potential northern lights sightings, arctic horseback riding, and “Peak to Surf” skiing tours on the Troll Peninsula. After magical days of skiing under the northern lights, visitors can take helicopter rides and snowmobiles cruises around the Mt. Hlíðarfjall Ski Resort, nominated as one of the “top 12 most exotic ski resorts in the world!”

When you’re not watching the games, you can enjoy everything that Iceland’s “capital of the north” has to offer. Akureyri was named one of the “best places in Europe” in 2015, and the city is always buzzing with excitement.
