The Iceland Winter Games return to the country’s ski capital for the fourth time. From March 25 to April 1, world class skiers, snowboarders and free stylers will converge in Akureyri to compete in a number of one-of-a-kind events like the “Volcanic Big Air“ freeski and snowboard competition and the “peak to surf“ ski tours.
Akureyri is located in northeast Iceland, in one of the longest fjords in the country. The city is surrounded by mountains reaching 1000-1500 meters, making a great spot for these competitors to catch some major air! The city of 20,000 anxiously awaits the return of one of Iceland’s biggest winter festivals.
Are you planning on skiing under the northern lights on Akureyri’s Mt. Hlíðarfjall this winter? Let us know by tweeting us at @IcelandNatural.
