Iceland Debuts Its First-Ever Street Food Festival

From July 19-21, the festival will bring together local restaurants and food vendors to celebrate Icelandic cuisine.

Come one, come all to Iceland’s first-ever Street Food Festival this July in Reykjavik’s Old Harbor in Miðbakki. From July 19th to the 21st, the festival will host various Icelandic restaurants and food vendors to bring you a taste of the country’s iconic cuisine. The festival will feature several bars, coffee shops, pop-up stores, and even live music – all with free entry! Along with Reykjavik Street Food, festival collaborators include Stólpi Gámar, Síminn, the City of Reykjavik, the Associated Icelandic Ports (Faxaflóahafnir) and the European Street Food Awards.

The Street Food Festival will also host the inaugural Iceland Street Food Awards, where local chefs will compete for your vote in the battle for “Best Street Food 2019.” The winner will continue on as Iceland’s first representative at the famed European Street Food Awards, the biggest street food competition in the world, to be held in Malmö, Sweden this coming September. This year, the contest will culminate in a live cook-off judged by the general public, as well as a “stellar panel of chefs, industry experts, and food journalists.”

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history! Come celebrate Iceland’s best culinary talent and enjoy delicious food from vendors around the country. What food would you love to try at the festival? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter.
