Get Outside and Get Moving This July!

Triathlons, marathons, bike races and more are coming to Iceland next month.

Summer is here, and Iceland’s midnight sun phenomenon is in full effect, which means there are more hours in the day to get up off the couch and enjoy the sun and fresh air. This July, get in shape and have some fun by participating in these exercise events and races coming to Iceland!

The Golden Circle Challenge

On July 8th, hundreds of cyclists will gather for one of Iceland’s biggest bike races. Now in its 6th year, the Golden Circle Challenges offers three different routes that vary based on difficulty to include cyclists of all ages and levels. All routes will kick off at the Laugarvatn lake and will take cyclists around the scenic Golden Circle. Along each route, be sure to look out for some of Iceland’s top natural attractions, such as Thingvellir National Park, the Great Geysir, the Golden Waterfall Gullfoss, and much more! Cyclists will also have the chance to win some prizes, including Garmin devices, iPhones and iPads. Don’t miss out on signing up for this one-of-a-kind race here!

Laugavegur Ultra Marathon

The Laugavegur Ultra Marathon invites more experienced runners to embark on a 55km mountain race through Iceland’s southern highlands. On July 15th, participants ages 18 years-old and up will experience the beauty of running through two nature reserves. Due to the difficulty of running over the multi-terrain mountain course, the event recommends that only experienced runners participate. This year’s race may be sold out, but don’t miss the opportunity to cheer on the runners and get ready for next year’s race!

The Iceland Race

For the most dedicated runners out there, the Iceland Race is for you. Choose between a 10k race, a 100k Ultra, or a Marathon that will take you along a breathtaking and scenic coastal route. These runs will kick off on July 6th in Vik, a quaint town in Southern Iceland. Register for one of these exciting races here!

Each race isn’t about winning, but about getting some exercise, having some fun, and experiencing Iceland’s amazing landscapes. So grab your friends and family and make sure to sign up for one these events now!
