Everything You Need to Know About the List í Ljósi Festival!

Celebrate the end of winter and return of the sun with the festival from February 14-15.

The award-winning List í Ljósi Festival celebrates the return of the sun to East Iceland after a long winter. This year’s “Art in the Light” event will take place on February 14th and 15th, from 6:00-10:00pm GMT. To celebrate the end of a long period of darkness, the small and scenic town of Seyðisfjörður turns off all the lights and invites artists from Iceland and beyond to illuminate the town and landscape with their art. Last year, the festival was recognized with the Eyrarrósin Icelandic Arts Award as an outstanding cultural event in Iceland’s countryside.List í Ljósi Festival artwork 2019

The renowned celebration is free, and attracts visitors and artists from all over the globe looking to celebrate this distinctive tradition.

The artwork featured in the 2019 exhibition spanned multiple mediums including sculpture, installation, pyrotechnics and projections. Hallur á Hálvmørk and Apolline Fjara’s Shadow Theatre combined performance with analog projectors centered on the principle of a magic lantern. Australia’s Emily Parsons-Lord used a pyrotechnic performance to explore the physical connections between the earth and sun, time and space. The 2020 season will feature a SYMPOSIUM at Herðubreið, a Flat Earth Film Festival, artist talks, parties and much more!
