Close Out 2020 With the Polar Beat New Year’s Party!

Sign up (for free!) today to participate in the largest virtual live concert.

To close out 2020, Iceland will be hosting one of the largest virtual live concerts around the globe, complete with popular musicians and a guaranteed Northern Lights experience! Join famous musicians including Sigur Ros and Kaleo for the Polar Beat New Year’s Party – an evening you won’t forget.

Musicians and celebrities, who will be transformed into avatars for the night, have joined forces with Icelandic tech innovators OZ and Snapchat to host a free virtual global concert like no other. People anywhere in the world are invited to also transform themselves into 3D avatars and dance the night away alongside the globally renowned bands, as well as Icelandic celebrities Briet, Auður, Stuðmenn and Friðrik Dór

Partygoers will be able to walk the red carpet and follow a mysterious and magical path to the center stage to watch the bands perform. For all those who have dreamt of spending New Year’s Eve in Iceland under the spectacular Northern Lights and legendary fireworks, but are unable to this year, this is the opportunity to experience the incredible celebrations firsthand from the comfort of their homes.

The entire experience will be broadcast on Iceland’s national TV network RUV and streamed here. The sign-up process is incredibly simple and free – just go to the Polar Beat website and register with your Snapchat account. Party guests can enter their Bitmoji avatar or create one to participate in the New Year’s Eve celebration. Plus, the sooner people sign up, the closer the Bitmoji avatar will be to the stage! Participants may secure a premium spot in front of the main stage by signing up right now.

At 6:30pm ET on December 31st, festival-goers can enter the website to join the interactive event and ring in the New Year in style. Attendees can even control their Bitmoji with a variety of dances and expressions and get a chance to see their avatar in the live stream!

In a press release announcing the event, Sigríður Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, Head of Visit Iceland, said: “We have missed welcoming visitors to Iceland this year. Known as a beautiful country of fire and ice, with magical views of the Northern Lights and spectacular fireworks on New Year‘s Eve, it is a popular destination choice for many over the festive period. As they unfortunately won‘t be able to visit in person this year, we‘re delighted to bring a taste of Iceland‘s celebrations, culture, creativity and spirit to the world with this unique event.“
