The 23rd edition of the Brooklyn Film Festival is going virtual this year! More than 140 independent films will be viewable for free from May 29 to June 7.
The event will feature the New York premiere of the film “Snaeland” about a disgraced German journalist who goes to Iceland, and stumbles upon a tabloid story that could redeem his career. A French nanny – once accused of killing a baby, and long thought to be dead – appears to be living in a small Icelandic fishing village. The film is a cool, neo-noir picture set during Iceland’s midsummer sun. Check out the trailer for the film here.
Also showing will be the U.S. premiere of the documentary, “Sisters: Dreams & Variations,” a piece which invites viewers to discover the creative and personal worlds of two distinctive Montreal artists. Tyr and Jasa grew up in an artistic household where art was a way of life. Quirky and insightful sisters, Tyr is a musician and singer while Jasa is an interdisciplinary artist. Inspired by their great-grandmother’s recordings of Icelandic folk songs, they have developed artistic practices that draw on their colourful imaginations and Icelandic roots. Their exploration leads them to journey to Iceland for the first time and collaborate on a project that brings together their artistic disciplines and cultural heritage.
