On September 24 at 12pm ET, join the First Lady of Iceland, Eliza Reid, for a Virtual Conversation with Icelandic authors Þóra Hjörleifsdóttir and Kristín Eiríksdóttir on their work, the literary scene in Iceland and what makes literature a force of its own in the land of fire and ice. Co-hosted by the Embassies of Iceland in Washington, London and Ottawa, and the Consulates General of Iceland in New York and Winnipeg, the event will be streamed live right from Iceland Naturally’s Facebook page!
Eliza Reid
Eliza is a writer and editor herself who co-founded the popular Iceland Writers‘ Retreat. Eliza will be joined by two emerging Icelandic authors that are making their English language debuts. The three guests will discuss their work, literature in Iceland, life and the universe. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A session where you can get your own questions answered! Þóra Hjörleifsdóttir
Þóra Hjörleifsdóttir is an Icelandic writer born in 1986. She has published three books of poetry with her poetry collective Impostor Poets, or “Svikaskáld,” and her first novel Magma, or “Kvika,” was published in Iceland, 2019 with critical and commercial claim. Magma is a poetic novel about love in the 21st century and how pornography and abuse have been normalized in intimate relationships. Magma has been picked up by Grove Atlantic in USA and Picador in the UK and the English translation will be published in March 2021.
Kristín Eiríksdóttir
Kristín Eiríksdóttir is an Icelandic poet and author born in 1981. Kristín’s debut novel Meat Town was published in 2004. She made her mark on the literary scene in a big way with her collection of short stories, Doris Dies in 2010. She has published seven books in Iceland. The past returns with a fury for a woman coming to terms with her life in Eiríksdóttir’s award-winning novel A Fist or A Heart published by Goodreads in the USA. Shortlisted for the 2019 Nordic Council Literature Prize and winner of the Icelandic Literary Prize 2019, A Fist or a Heart is a gripping, artfully interwoven novel of power, secrets, and isolation by one of the most bracing and original voices of the author’s generation.
