The magic of the midnight sun only grows as Iceland moves into August. This upcoming month is filled with events for everyone to enjoy. From the Reykjavik Marathon to the third annual Bacon Festival, Iceland is teaming with activity and summer fun! Visitors and residents alike are drawn to the many festivals this August to let loose and experience all the country has to offer.
August 20: Reykjavík Marathon
What better way to see Reykjavik than running through the city streets. If 42.2 km seems a bit daunting, the race offers five different distances (ranging from a kids’ run to a half-marathon), so all running abilities are welcome. Make sure to register early to avoid increased entry fees.
August 20: Reykjavík Culture Night
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Reykjavik Culture Night is a night to eat, drink and dance throughout the city. With block parties, museums and garden tours, visitors and residents alike take part in the festivities and top the night off with a sensational evening of music and fireworks.

July 29 – August 1: National Festival Weekend
Verslunarmannahelgi is the Icelandic equivalent of Labor Day Weekend and is dedicated to merchants. Many Icelanders take advantage of the Verslunarmannahelgi long weekend by leaving the city to attend outdoor festivals and camp.
July 29 – August 1: Innipúkinn – Reykjavík Indoor-Festival
For those who choose to stay in Reykjavik during Verslunarmannahelgi, the Innipúkinn Music Festival is a great way to see Icelandic headliners perform in Reykjavik. Tickets for the 15th annual festival are still on sale.
August 2 – 7 : Reykjavík Pride
Pride week in Iceland is a time to celebrate the LGBT community in Reykjavik. The six-day long festival is filled with exciting events from lectures to concerts and has become one of three major festivals in the country with over 70,000 participants each year.
August 10 – 14: Reykjavík Jazz Festival
Highlighting all that jazz has to offer, the Reykjavik Jazz Festival has become increasingly prestigious on the international jazz scene. This festival features Icelandic jazz artists such as Ingi Bjarni Quartet and The Reykjavik Big Band.
August 13: Reykjavík Bacon Festival
If the smell of bacon is what gets you up in the morning, the Reykjavik Bacon Festival is the summer festival for you. Bacon lovers will have the opportunity to try a wide range of bacon and bacon inspired treats at this third annual event.
