On October 10th, TED and Future Stewards will host a free, virtual launch of their global climate change initiative, Countdown. A movement dedicated to building a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, Countdown will unite diverse groups of people to find the most effective and evidence-based ideas to combat climate change.
The global launch will kick off with a discussion from leading thinkers about the possibility of a zero-emission future and the stirring examples of real progress already underway. In five curated sessions, the event will combine TED’s signature blend of actionable and research-backed ideas, cutting-edge science, and moments of wonder and inspiration.
Icelandic poet and writer, Andri Snær Magnason, will be joining the impressive lineup of more than 50 featured speakers, including Al Gore, Ava Duvernay, Prince William and Pope Francis. A Reykjavik native, Magnason was awarded National Best Seller in Iceland in 2019 for his book On Time and Water. In 2013, his book, The Story of The Blue Planet, was awarded the Green Earth Book Award. His presentations are also very popular, including his one man show in The City Theater of Reykjavík and his talks all over the world. Throughout his work as a storyteller and environmental activist, Magnason is known for his unique approach to large and small issues. He’ll be presenting during the fifth session on October 10 from 3:50pm – 5:00pm ET.
